Call For Proposals

There are two categories of projects, each with their own expected deliverables.

Please find the details below

Submissions closed. Only selected proposals' PIs will be contacted via email.

The IIITB COMET Foundation will focus on fostering research driven projects that aim on expanding the frontiers of knowledge in the ACS area, developing indigenous research and IPR leading to possible products/Transfer of Technology that can have national and international impact. To this end, we have floated call for proposals in two categories of ACS projects (please see our Call For Proposals page). The timelines of these projects range from three to four years. The focus of the projects can range from generating foundational knowledge to development of novel prototypes, IPR, papers published in reputed peer-reviewed venues, and niche manpower training. The above research-oriented work may lead to some start-ups, Transfer of Technology (ToT) and products.

Category 1

Total 4 years; break up given below

Areas of Focus: Research and development in the areas of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS).

Eligibility Criteria: an academic institute, or a consortium of academic institutes and industry lead by a reputed academic institute, or a consortium of academic institutes with following experiences,

  • The people involved in the project would have prior experience in wireless networks research.

Expected Output (Total 4 years):

  • The submitted proposal should have a clear three-years-timeline on the proposed research problem with expected milestones & deliverables, and proof of concept (if any).
  • Additional 1 year (4th year, or from second year onwards to fourth year) to plan the commercialization/transfer of technology to industry, possible starting of startup(s), sharing of IP/IPR with industry or academia for revenue generation.
  • Skilled Human resource development in the areas related to the proposal, which makes them eligible to get a job or found their own company as entrepreneurs.
  • Two workshops related to the project for knowledge dissemination to academia and industry.
  • IP/IPR (Patents).
  • Papers (published in reputable peer reviewed venues (Journals and International Conferences)).

Funding: The proposal should include a year wise recurring and non-recurring heading expenditures.

  • In the above expenditure, how much does the proposal need from this TIH?
  • Is there any co-funding source to support the above activity of R&D related to RIS and beyond? If yes, what is the relationship of IPR sharing with this TIH?

Review: There will be a review by the TIH once every six months. The review will cover both the technical progress and the financial expenditure. The TIH has all the rights to withdraw support based on the progress.

  • The leadership involved in the project should have prior experience in 4G/5G wireless research and contributions to 3GPP/IEEE/TSDSI standards.
  • The leadership involved in the project should have R&D experience in Physical Layer or MAC or RRC or Control Layer or Core Network elements.
  • The leadership of the group preferably should have prior experience in chip design and implementation of Physical or MAC or RRC or control layers algorithms.
  • The leadership should have a proven track record of executing and delivering similar projects (at least one) in the wireless space.

Expected Output: (Total 4 years)

  • The submitted proposal should have a clear three-years-timeline of base station design, implementation/testing plan, along with expected milestones and deliverables. It should follow all the major functions of 3GPP 5G standards and 5G evolution.
  • Additional 1 year (4th year, or from second year onwards to fourth year) can be planned for field trials and commercialization.
  • The final deliverable should include an end-to-end system demonstration and trial.
  • The final deliverable should be in a form that can be commercialized.
  • Skilled Human resource development in the areas related to the proposal, which makes them eligible to get a job or found their own company as entrepreneurs.
  • The proposal should also explain possible plans for commercialization of the base station.
  • IP/IPR.
  • Papers (published in reputable peer reviewed venues (Journals/International Conferences)).
  • One/multiple national, and at least one international, collaboration(s).

Funding: The proposal should include a year wise recurring and non-recurring heading expenditures. The total amount depends on the project details and their justification submitted in the proposal.

  • In the above expenditure, how much does the proposal need from this TIH?
  • Is there any co-funding source to support the above activity of R&D related to 5G base station and commercialization? If yes, what is the relationship of IPR sharing with this TIH?
